It's a sunny cold day today.

I couldn't believe the temperature this morning, it was 11 degrees brr... I wanted to stay under the warm covers. Well, I knew I had to get up and about, so I grabbed my robe, put on my slippers and headed to the kitchen. My husband was just making the coffee. He can lift the filtered water pitcher and pour it into the coffeemaker. We decided not to use tap water anymore for coffee, it has this metalic kind of taste. I don't mind drinking water from the tap, but I have to do it immediately or its that awful taste.

Today, I have a dentist appointment. I am sure most people don't like going to the dentist even to get their teeth cleaned. The hygentist pokes around with her metal toothpick to see if there are any cavities. Then she proceeds to clean the teeth and often I get to "spit out" some blood or saliva. Sometimes, they have a device that pulls out the saliva, and you think your tongue is going with it. The paste she uses to clean your teeth often feels gritty, but you figure they know what they are doing. Then she uses dental floss and goes between your teeth before the final rinse. Within minutes, the Dentist joins the cleaning session and checks over your teeth. She may indicate a suspicious tooth, and he'll check it with that metal toothpick. He also checks under my tongue & inside my mouth, for any lumps or sores that could be cancerous. I know its good he does. If everything is looks fine, I am good for 6 more months.

In my last visit I had a spongy crown, so he told me it had to be replaced. I was there two weeks later. He had me all numbed up ready to take off the crown. Then with only a slight tug at the crown and it came off just like nothing. But part of my tooth came with it. He was not very happy, and kept saying "Oh, no...Oh,no!" I then wondered what now? He was sorry to tell me I would have to see an oral surgeon to remove the rest of my tooth & the dead nerve. I was not ready for this or any more expenses than just the $500. for the crown.

I have seen the oral surgeon, but did not have the surgery. I found out that because I take Fosmax for bone density. It can effect the jaw in healing or perhaps there could be some infections. So, I am to wait several months now to get the Fosmax out of my system. Who would think a pill to make your bones stronger can weaken your teeth in your jaw. Apparently, Fosmax only helps the bones in your legs and hips get thicker so you don't have bone loss. It just doesn't help your jaw and teeth.

I wonder why our family doctor or specialist don't tell us of this risk with medicine like Fosmax. I also learned some cancer patients have similar problems with their medication affecting their teeth. There is so much the doctors have to know in treating patients and they can't tell you everything. They are concerned about your health and trying to keep you well.

I just found out this information about Fosmax, and it might be good for those taking it to ask their doctors. There might be other medications that could do the same thing to your teeth.

We have to take the good with the bad, I suppose. It's part of life. Sometimes, we have no choice.

Oh, well I wonder what the next day will bring?
